Looks like the first order of business after Houston-based El Super acquired Fiesta Mart was to close a few stores. Over the weekend I noticed that Fiesta on Hampton and Singleton shut down. This is concerning for West Dallas which is extremely underserved by grocery chains.

But seriously, I agree w/ Hwulivn. Good concept system, tamtagon. Trying to think of a suggestion to build further on it... The Asian American Cultural Center that Matthews Southwest wants to put in the Cedars might be a better fit for the Arts District, especially if it's walking distance to the L...
Victory Park's new tallest tower will cost more than $138 million https://www.dallasnews.com/business/real-estate/2018/04/19/victory-parks-new-tallest-tower-will-cost-138-million Houston developer Hines has filed building permits for what would be the tallest tower in Dallas' Victory Park developme...
6 Projects That Transformed Dallas Into A Global Powerhouse Over The Last 10 Years https://www.bisnow.com/dallas-ft-worth/news/state-of-market/dallas-transformed-into-a-global-powerhouse-over-the-last-10-years-8745 Not sure where to put this, but this dumb listicle gives way too much credit to indi...
I hope its townhomes. I fear its more apartments and I have been very supportive of the growth of rental units in this area but the land they have seems like it would be better used as rows of townhomes on both sides. I agree, and I can't see how you could build 4-story apartments on how they're as...
For example, Harwood will be integrating historical building shells to preserve the historic architecture which creates cool rooms of activity. It would be great to hide a basketball court in such a way with a brick of a historical building. That way it's not some garish basketball court with ugly ...

The next battle in the Bishop Arts gentrification saga comes as an update to this story from March 2017: https://oakcliff.advocatemag.com/2017/03/investor-buys-bishop-arts-apartment-block/ Minnesota-based Oaks Properties had no plans for the 11 buildings they purchased, which are some of the nicest ...
The CPC agenda for this week has a request from The Union to approve their blade and monument signs for Tom Thumb and the other retail tenants. I remember North Italia and Starbucks discussed, but you can see Sumo Maya, Chop't, Seasons 52 and Jimmy John's rounding out the list. Screen Shot 2018-04-1...
Little did I know that bcWorkshop had studied this area in 2016 and did a fantastic job of proposing a redevelopment plan for Westmoreland and several other stations. Around 2011 I spent a lot of time at the Terrace condos and most of the people I talked with loved living close to the arena, hosting pre- and after-parties, walking to concerts and games, letting a friend park in their garage, etc. They knew exactly what they were getting when they chose to live th...
The pending really big deal for Lower Greenville and Henderson Avenue --- and much bigger NIMBY fight is the old Sears new Fiesta location. That triangle is the future end of Downtown Dallas Ross Avenue, as the business-commercial transitions into residential-commercial. Threshold, fulcrum, linchpi...
This is the visual that made it real for me. Permanent closure of Live Oak on 4/22. 08F4AB73-9297-4E8D-82E5-30707A0745CA.jpeg I really wish Dallas could work on West End park next, after this one instead of Carpenter Park. The West End is finally starting to show some life. Tourists still go there a...
Lower Greenville's still trying to fill in the giant blank space left by Walmart https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2018/04/11/lower-greenvilles-still-trying-fill-giant-blank-space-left-walmart This is just an update on the Walmart property and how big boxes are evil, but I don't think t...
The Taylor Lofts building seems to be topping out, with the Lynd apartment building starting to take shape. Screen Shot 2018-04-10 at 2.08.01 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2018-04-10 at 2.08.33 PM.jpg Also, it looks like they're still finishing out the Urban Farmhouse space, and another retailer is taking the ...
Also Hispanic people don't go to Olive garden..FACTS! It's overpriced Chef Boyardee. Probably right about the quality, but I had to laugh because the last place I remember seeing an Olive Garden was at a busy mall in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This shopping center isn't for Oak Cliff anyway. It's for p...
My company is doing the frameless shower glass for this project. You can see some internal photos and cool discovered artwork on our website at http://www.GoFrameless.com click on What's New. Google Thomas Cusack & Co. Chicago for good story about one of the artists whose work is seen in my pho...
The sad thing is when Cambria is no longer the flag for this hotel will the next owner update the sign or remove it? Should have gone with TOWER. I suppose it's possible, likely even, that given the amount of sorcery it took to approve this sign, the owner was made to make the lettering panels inte...
Remember when Trader Joe's was interested in opening on this site? I wonder if their growth plans hit a snag but they would be perfect for West Dallas.
The one thing the downtown area park initiative continues to lack is a linear mobility-park, specific example is Harwood Street from Katy Trail to Old City Park. I don't expect Parks for Downtown to care about Old City Park or the Katy Trail, but I do hope that once the new downtown parks are done ...
Remove the Olive cutoff and Pacific Plaza pocket park and there's area for new development. Screen Shot 2018-04-04 at 12.04.31 PM.jpg I've always assumed that the pocket park was controlled by Parks Department, but I see now that DCAD doesn't even have it listed and is probably just a street median...
I like it. To bad I don't think this will spur any Development You could argue that Corrigan Tower was redeveloped because it would face the park, but who knows (there were several renderings of the park in their construction office for a long time). I'll remain optimistic and hope that the parking...
I don't think this will happen, but it would be so cool if this kick-started a trend of other businesses along Elm to put blade signs back up to match this and the Majestic. That really would be great but my concern would be that the businesses won't be there long enough to justify the expense. I h...
Based on the photo on page 55, it looks like this replaces the buildings occupied by Pakpao, Oak, Miele, bauhaus and Kim Dawson Agency. I shaded the image myself but the black outline is theirs.
In announcing that Friday is the last day that the parking lot will be open, Parks for Downtown released another rendering with a different version of the shade structure.
^Another thing to consider is that this building is 374,000 sqft but Amazon said it wanted about 500,000 for its first phase. Maybe this checks the box for being in the range of square footage or maybe it doesn't because it falls short.
Page 50 of the CPC Agenda for this week contains the following request by a bunch of LLCs related to Dunhill Partners: "An application to replat a 3.692-acre tract of land to create 4 lots ranging in size from 0.6-acre to 1.412-acre on property located between Hi Line Drive and Stemmons Freeway...
^I wonder what the plan is for the retail at the base of the garage. Suppose they will all be replaced with restaurants that source from the Commissary.
Dallas sure does love over-doing it when it comes to their parks. I do like Klyde Warren and Main Street Garden, but it'd be nice to see some simpler parks that are just grass, trees, and some benches. I think it's been discussed, but Dallas tried simple parks with benches and trees in the past and...
I found a presentation showing that DART received a few unsolicited bids for using DART land for TOD. I found the Cedars and Forest Lane to be the most interesting. http://www.dart.org/about/board/boardagendas/planitem3_27mar18.pdf Glad to know that the Asian American Cultural Center found a partne...
Not the most exciting update, but the fact that they've selected an architect for West End Plaza is a big step forward. They've always said that this project could be done quickly and at the same time as one of the other new parks, so who knows.
^You can see from the second rendering that they intend on keeping one of the two existing Sanger-Harris murals. Not sure if the one that's being removed is the large one or the small one there currently.
It's a bit of a big deal that we're getting retail that's not a 7-Eleven, high-end store or restaurant. Verizon may not be on the top 10 list of things we want downtown, but when you really think about it the AT&T store is only there because it's subsidized by HQ. Verizon is there because Commer...
I would think that there are enough residents nearby to support a grab-and-go, bodega or wine bar type of business here, but I won't pretend like the small and poorly lit sidewalks in that stretch of Cedar Springs invite pedestrians.
Parks for Downtown Dallas posted a photo of 2008 Jackson in the process of being demolished. To my knowledge it's the only structure they were planning to raze for the park; however I'm not sure how they were able to do it so quickly when there's a demo delay overlay here. https://pbs.twimg.com/medi...
