Re: Downtown Dallas Retail

I don't really have an update/announcement regarding Downtown Dallas, but I just wanted to say that I hung out in Downtown last Saturday for dinner/drinks and I was really impressed at how lively it all was. We had dinner at Americano, then walked over to the Statler for drinks at Scout (which was ...

If a downtown business doesn't have convenient parking then it's not catering to me -- and I live less than half a mile outside the loop. Parking isn't for "Frisco or Weatherford", it's for Lakewood and Lake Highlands. If you make it inconvenient for those people they have plenty of optio...

Re: Victory Park 3.0

None of the strawmen change or even address the fact that the percentage of the DFW population for which DART offers reasonably functional transportation to events at the AAC is very very small. That's their problem. If you choose to live in a suburb, especially one that is a non-DART member, you d...

Re: Victory Park 3.0

The problem with DART is it is simply not convenient enough for 80% of the citizens in DFW *dare I say Dallas* to use it. Arguing that buildings in downtown should sacrifice on parking for the sake of urbanity simply is not economical because the companies housed in those buildings would move to Fr...

The need for Parking for everyone for every place that's the real fantasy. There's so much parking garages in downtown anyway; people not wanting to walk a couple of blocks...I agree that's absurd. It is beyond absurd. If you're not physically disabled, you can walk a couple of blocks. No wonder ou...

Indeed. The percentage of DFW's population that can reasonably take DART to an event at the AAC, is de minimis. That means nothing; that could be said for every Metropolitan center across the world. If you ever lived in any true urban center, you'd know that people drive to transit station from the...

You realize this is an "urban forum," right? So easy and abundant parking is the antithesis of good urban planning.

Re: Could Dallas land Amazon HQ '2'?

Dallas isn't serious enough about urban planning or public transportation, so Amazon should highly consider another city if that's important to them. Sometimes it takes something like Boeing to get this city moving in the right direction.

That theater looks stellar, hope that brings people into the area. I guess with the parking garage at Cinepolis it would create a easier spot to park and take advantage of the entertainment. That 93% was due to endless highway expansion by city/regional/state planners, not some magical "free market" choice between cars & trains. The population growth didn't occur out of thin air. LOL. Yeah, everybody moved to the suburbs because of some giant government conspiracy. Ok.......

That "no transit" thing is going to hurt them badly when stacked up against other options and they are too far out of the wedge. Since DART was created 93% of the population growth in the DFW metro area has been outside of the DART service area. DART doesn't even serve the entire metropol...

The building is a turd, but the scale is about right for the corner. It could certainly use a massive face lift. But if it does get torn down, Headington better have something going up on its heels. Clearing the land simply so it's 'ready' would be very bad. Headington already has blocks of parking...

I was curious about parking demand in these places, so I checked out some census data on the number of vehicles kept at home. Uptown currently averages 1.42 cars per household. So the code requires providing more parking (1.5/unit) than Uptown residents actually use. Wasteful. To the extent that pa...

Why is High end sad??? It's bad when it's over-saturated. Too much of one thing is bad. Uptown isn't really dense enough to guarantee a lot of activity. Uptown is decently dense in terms of buildings and height, but...
