Re: Downtown - Pacific Plaza Park

How's Pacific Plaza Park looking these days? Other than empty I mean.

Does Dallas ever have anyone in "Parks" who's not interim? Must be a terrible "going nowhere" position.

Re: Design District: Virgin Hotel

I like this direction for the Trinity Strand Trail. The adventurous design of the hotel exudes a bit of "resort on the riverwalk". I wouldn't mind seeing more of this along Turtle Creek.

Re: Arts District: Hall Arts Hotel & Residences

Great photos texasstar. Your eye never disappoints, but these last two are exceptional. I love that you can create a "visual context" for these evolving projects in downtown. You make the "hodge podge" seem like it may be going somewhere.

Re: Trinity River Park

Can't we just do some really nice tree plantings all between the two bridges and along the new trail paths that would bloom in the spring and change colors in the fall. Surely that could be done until we can come up a longer term plan or if we never do then at least it will be pretty and inviting d...

Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)

Nice to see the kinetic sculpture possibilities of these two masses as seen from a moving car. Very updated and (maybe even better) version of Pennzoil Place of 70's Houston fame, now sadly blocked by bigger buildings from most angles. Should one wonder about the impact of a future Perot tower on th...

[quote="joshua.dodd"]"A dialogue with the office tower." Why must they use such unnecessarily cheesy language like this? Overall, I'm loving the presence it is invoking on the skyline. It really does serve well as a compliment to Fountain Place.[/quot Renzo Piano used the phrase ...

Re: Arts District: Master Plan

"Midtown Arts Theater Center Houston" is an interesting take on building theaters without the usual smoke, mirrors and vast air-conditioned lobbies. An indoor/outdoor arrangement features several different sized spaces under a huge canopy that does double duty as informal gathering space b...

Re: What is a suburb today?

What is a suburb today? What is a suburb tomorrow? Retrofitting Suburbia by Ellen Dunham-Jones and June Williamson The authors contend that the next few decades will entail a reinvention of the suburbs, their dead malls and strip centers, as well as the re-purposing of thousands of acres of decaying...

Well... when Dallas finally goes "dense", it seems to do so whole-heartedly. "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."

Re: Arts District: Master Plan

I love storefront theaters and unexpected bldgs turned into performance spaces. Unfortunately, the theaters seem to disappear as the real estate they occupy becomes popular. Higher rents are the ironic death knell for many companies who may have been partially responsible for bringing their location...

Re: Arts District: Master Plan

Is the City Performance Hall on any sort of schedule for expansion within the next ten years? I'm kinda wondering if those blueprints will be modified to something different. I'd love to see more work on it, and maybe reconfigured for some more even smaller more affordable spaces. Theater Row in NY...

Re: What is a suburb today?

The answer to the original question is Frisco. I was wondering about that myself. What of the original query? And does it ever become "post suburb"? Is everything outside an urban core a suburb by virtue of it's location alone? As Oak Lawn dissolves into Downtown does it cease to be a sub...

Re: Downtown Dallas: Tower Petroleum - The Saint Elm Hotel (1907 Elm) & Corrigan Tower (1900 Pacific)

Am glad to see "revival" coming at last to Tower Petroleum and Child. Happy to see the nearby future park talked about as "a given for a healthy neighborhood" instead of "a place only the drug industry and homeless will enjoy". Happy to see that the future of old buildi...
