I lived here in Dallas in the 1980's and 90's when you could rent a decent apartment south of Highland Park all the way to downtown for about $500 a month and I also remember when there was no one downtown or anywhere in Oak Lawn during the day and no one dare walk on the sidewalks. Has any large city in the US successfully dealt with the homeless I can't think of one and Dallas is way down on the list based on my obervation's and visits to those other cities. I actually have been to both New York locations as well as Chicago and though it never crossed my mind I think North Park might be the best viable spot for Eataly in the Metro. It would draw from the entire region especially on weekends it would be a destination.

Some kind of interesting pedestrian bridge over Field Street would help connect uptown with Victory and also act as a feature for that area. There is not a very friendly way to walk from Uptown to Victory without feeling like frogger.

Beyond the food court I wonder when they will add a hotel or residential tower component or both to the mix. I really think there is a market there for that type of development and it would also make it more urban than just a shopping center.

If all we end up getting is a traffic light at Knight and Cedar Springs I will consider it a success in providing more safety for local residential pedestrians to connect to that Kroger and also to slow the speed of cars on that stretch of road.
