Re: the Cotton Belt line

Will this actually be called the Cotton Belt line or will it be given a color based name as other DART lines. DART has consistently displayed it as a dotted purple line on their recent expansion maps so that might be a hint. Interestingly Washington D.C. is also building an east-west rail line acro...

Re: DART D2 Subway

The majority of passengers using Love field would not use DART even if there was a subway station in the basement of the terminal. The Love Link bus isn't the hurdle -they are timed such that there's pretty much always one there to meet arriving trains - it's getting airport users from where they l...

Re: DART D2 Subway

^ So you want to spend a billion dollars to add redundancy for the few hours a year the line is blocked? So would you support converting Greenville Avenue into an 8 lane freeway for when NCX is blocked? The comparison is fundamentally unsound. You're attempting to compare a rail line that potential...

Re: DART D2 Subway

D2 is absolutely needed regardless of whether it adds more ridership, simply because it creates the necessary redundancy downtown. This has likely been mentioned before, but the current transit mall setup (having all four rail lines along one path and countless bus routes intersecting those rail lin...

Re: the Cotton Belt line

It's important to acknowledge that DCTA, DART, and FWTA are three different transit agencies collecting taxes from entirely different cities, and that each has tax paying citizens who wish to see transit services provided to them locally. They do not wish to see taexs from Denton County spent in Da...

Re: the Cotton Belt line

Tangential question, but, are there plans to extend DCTA into a single train into downtown Dallas? Or, will a transfer to LRT always be required? That would certainly be a nice harken back to the DCTA Commuter Express Bus that once served Downtown Dallas directly. I'm not aware of any plans, and un...

Re: Las Colinas/North Irving Development

Thanks for the tip. I hope they make the monorail go out to music factory. That would help a lot for those on the other side of the lake. Supposedly there are plans to do just that: APT Expansion Slide 1.png APT Expansion Slide 2.png It's anyone's guess as to whether those plans come to fruition or...

Re: the Cotton Belt line

I'd be curious to know what stations were not built on the other DART lines that were included in the applicable EIS, and that were not discussed in such EIS as future or potential stations. To my knowledge, there are 6: -Carpenter Ranch: deferred at the last minute, now planned for construction fo...

Re: the Cotton Belt line

The population center needs both. Before Cotton Belt can live up to potential, the population center has to first acknowledge then embrace the benefit. It'll get started only an easy way to get to the airport for North Dallas and South Collin folks, eventually acceptance of high density nodes will ...

Re: Las Colinas/North Irving Development

Note for those attending an event or dining/drinking at the Music Factory: I have it on good authority that if you want an Uber/Lyft ride, you have to walk all the way around to the 114 service road side. Security is not allowing pickups by the restaurants/bars at all. I can see this working for ev...

Re: Dallas Area Rapid Transit

This is a great question as different stations offer passengers different amenities. As mentioned earlier, stations with the sort of configuration in the photo are rail stations with transit centers literally built into the framework of the station. They feature restrooms, vending machines, and a st...

Re: Las Colinas/North Irving Development

Any word on if or how the Las Colinas APT people mover will reach the new Music Factory development? I've seen everything from plans to extend the guideway to the median of Las Colinas Boulevard with an adjacent station, to a stop (awkwardly placed) just behind the main stage, to no access at all.

Re: DART: Expansion

I suppose they will look at several alignments, and estimate the projected costs for each. Then a final alignment will be chosen with at least a projected price attached. Eventually, they will choose the alignment that gives the most bang for the buck - not necessarily the cheapest to build. Exactl...

Re: DART: Expansion

I wonder if they'll revisit the alternatives they've researched that are already mostly underground, mainly B4 under Commerce and C3A under Union and City Hall.

Re: Dallas Area Rapid Transit

I never thought of that, but that would certainly be a shame to see the current plan affected. I really, really hope the subway doesn't get nixed somehow. I'd honestly be surprised if it isn't affected, I think that was even one of DART's stated reasons for pushing for a D2 alignment approval so qu...

Re: DART: Expansion

I keep hearing one of biggest reasons the Cotton Belt line is so gosh darn important to build is to keep Addison in DART who has been paying into the system since 1983 and because they're the only member city that still doesn't have rail service and that they 'just deserve it already.' Well guess wh...
