I know it sounds futile, but is there anyone to contact at Dart, Dallas 311, or a council member that could possibly help out with this?

Nice! I was at VP yesterday afternoon and was surprised at how busy Freshii was. Afterward, I went to Cafe Victoria and it too was pretty steady with customers. VP will be a nice place to spend time at once all the new retail opens.

I was worried about the "no residential" as well, but then I realized there's so much residential near Farmers Market. Also, they're trying to get this done in a year? "The developers hope to kick off the project immediately and bring the buildings online before the end of this year.&...

I work in Frisco, and I too was surprised when I heard people here say Frisco was a strong contender. Their strongest point was all the land they had to offer, followed by incentives, and strong school system.

I was at the Grand Central Market about a month ago, and it's one of the things that kept surprising me of downtown LA. There are all these cool markets, stores, and restaurants in the middle of what people might describe as a ghetto downtown.

Re: Legacy West

I was at the food hall today during lunch and it was packed. It's comparable to the Farmers Market shed since most of the food stalls are on the first level. The second and third levels were mostly seating so the whole "food hall vibe" gets lost once you go up. Overall, it feels like a nic...

From what I've read, there's supposed to be a coffee shop at the base of the building on the left with patio seating. Looking inside through the windows, there's a ton of space for retail/food hall next to the alley way. Not sure what the plan is, but it would be cool if they opened up the space to ...

A mall is the #1 tourist attraction? That's lame. DTD doesn't need to have as much retail as a mall, but some key, affordable stores would really make a difference.

^True. I live near West Village by North Dallas HS, and I end up walking 45 min to get to Victory Park. Of course, this is only possible on the weekends when I have extra down time. What kind of wait times do cities like Melbourne have for their tram system? Waiting even 20 min for the trolley feels...

Retail as in clothes, shoes, furniture. Here in Dallas, that would be Zara, Urban Outfitters, Gap, West Elm, etc. I'm assuming "mom & pop" shops would be the non-chain stores you find at Bishop Arts and Deep Ellum.

I drove by Harwood Tavern last night. They added these wooden privacy screens to the patio which really walls off the activity from the street. It actually makes the place look like it's boarded up from the street. Here's a photo from their Facebook page.

There's no way we can compete on urban experience with the major US cities. We don't even have regular retail downtown. What I have noticed though, is a lot of people coming back from having lived in NYC and LA for several years, and really liking Dallas, not to mention people from smaller or compar...

The cool thing about Royal Blue is that they're also a coffee shop/cafe. Last time I was in Austin, they stayed open pretty late, and you could still sit down and get a sandwich and coffee. This will be pretty good to have downtown on the weekends.
