Re: Dallas Area Rapid Transit

Which transit plan was this a part of? I've seen (actually I saved them off the old forum) maps for the much more complex downtown alignments for the 1983 DART plan, so is this for one of the more pared-down plans after the bond election failed? The buildings included on the maps seem to imply so, b...

Re: the Cotton Belt line

Presumably via the BNSF line from Irving to Carrollton. Would be quite out of the way though, not to mention having to deal with freight trains. I wonder why Carrollton is so opposed to the site that was proposed as the Cotton Belt yard facility.

Re: DART: Expansion

The Cotton Belt Line belongs to Kansas City Southern - KCS.

DART owns the Cotton Belt from Fort Worth to Wylie. They let KCS use the tracks from Wylie to Richardson, at the cost of KCS doing maintenance on it.

Re: DART: Expansion

At the rate it's taking TXDOT to get LBJ East figured out, it could be possible to integrate the LBJ line into the rebuild and cut out about 2 miles of tunnel. Of course then you're subject to the whims and delays TXDOT is known for. It happened with the Orange Line segment along SH 114 (why the fir...

Re: the Cotton Belt line

I agree that D3 should be a long way off in terms of planning, with bus system improvements, D2, the Cotton Belt, modern streetcar expansion, and Red/Blue line platform extensions ahead of it in priority. But for my two cents, I've planned out a D3 line along Wood, Young, and Canton to serve as a co...

Re: MATA: M-Line Trolley

PCC from Toronto (Car 4614) Has it a name yet? From an old comment on the MATA Facebook page, " 612 will be named Margaret, after Margaret Crow, for Trammell Crow's gracious funding support in 612's rebuild." Seems likely to me that they'll transfer the name to 4614. So far they have only...

Re: MATA: M-Line Trolley

I vaguely recall hearing it had some electrical component fail a few months ago, can't remember where or when though. I'm just glad they're back to having enough operable cars to run three in regular service, instead of just two like they did for a while.

Re: MATA: M-Line Trolley

At the bottom of the most recent MATA newsletter ( link here ), there is a short bit about the partial restoration of DR&T 189. The wording is a bit unclear, but I believe they're saying that the front end of the car has been removed, cosmetically restored, and will be placed on display at a hot...

Re: New Oak Cliff Streetcar

From what I've read about upcoming service changes, almost nobody has been using that bus loop, so it's being discontinued in March. As it stands, Jefferson just has a fundamentally different set of businesses compared to Davis/7th, being geared primarily towards lower income hispanic people instead...

Re: the Cotton Belt line

So I've noticed that since some time in the last few months, most if not all of the official maps only show the south option at US75/PGBT, so I guess they may have decided on that option without much fanfare.

Re: I-30 South & East Dallas reconstruction

Just like I-45. Also, turns out that if US287 ever does get upgraded to an interstate, it would be I-32, potentially extending northwest from Amarillo into New Mexico.

Re: DART D2 Subway

I understand DART wanting to stick to public ROW (streets), but I still think the large, almost empty area between Elm, Pacific, I-345, and Good Latimer is the perfect place to put the east portal. I made a map of this after the last update: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1a2KiLNPcG2SLQ5SY5J9upB1N...

Re: DART D2 Subway

Interesting that the subway proponents from Deep Ellum were able to get the Good Latimer connection downgraded to secondary choice vs Swiss Avenue. Although to me, if it's going to take a more northerly route that does away with Deep Ellum Station, they'd be better off putting the portal south of Pa...

Re: Uptown Dallas: McKinney, Cole Conversion

Another alternative would be to reverse the direction of the loop on Cole so the streetcars will be running with the traffic, which means they wouldn't need to have dedicated lanes. This would require some track work at the split with tracks crossing one another and the potential of the streetcars ...

Re: MATA: M-Line Trolley

They've had up to five, maybe six cars operational at once before, but since then they've been taking one or two cars out of service for major maintenance and letting the others fill in, so back to about four operational cars, like it was originally. Of course, this doesn't account for unscheduled m...
