Re: DTD: Farmer's Market 1.0

We have been eating fresh, local produce from the Farmers Market all summer. The couple with the farm in Jacksonville, TX has our favorite vegetables, especially their tomatoes. They also sell "seconds" (bruised tomatoes that you can use for sauce), which is cool. We buy all our lamb, pork...

Re: Knox / Henderson - Knox Street Side

Demolition has finally started on the buildings at Hester and Mckinney for that apartment complex that still hasn't gotten its final designs approved by the Oak Lawn committee yet. RIP my old condo! It was a great location, a nice unit, and cashing out when they bought out the building didn't hurt ...

All the development along Knox is exciting, but Knox always had a Main Street feel that made it unique. I think it'll be a cool street once all this is done, but it will have lost some cool vibes as well.

Re: Harwood Int'l District: No. 10 Harwood (22 ST)

Yeah, I know it's a trite comment on this board to say, "I wish it were taller," but I can't help but say it. Harwood seems to do this over and over again. It's the same with the Amegy Bank tower - both are cool buildings, but they just look awkward because they seem unfinished or incomple...

Re: Uptown: Carlisle St. Urban Renewal Project/Block 968

Nice upgrade and they've clearly done a lot of leg work. That being said, this will replace a large supply of some of the more reasonably priced housing units in this area. If there is public money on the table (or frankly, even without it, given their need for zoning changes), they should be requir...

The Trophy Room building does appear to be an old home, but (unfortunately), I don't think it has any kind of historic protection.

Re: Uptown Dallas: Cedar Maple Plaza I,II & III (2301 Cedar Springs Rd.)

Yeah, nope. Do not like this project. It places a car drive, pull-in and valet area right on the corner of Cedar Springs and Maple. This is essentially a high-dollar high-rise with a bunch of open space around it and 2 pad site restaurants. Hello suburbs. Thanks for burying all the parking, but I'd ...

The Masonic Temple is in the Harwood Historic District and is a contributing structure to said District, so it can't be demolished (unless they get permission, which would be highly unlikely). However, the restrictions do not cover interior spaces, so the owner can do renovations to the interior wit...

It looks like they will be adding trees to this site as well, which will vastly improve the appearance of the front of the hotel. The Cambria should consider utilizing the awnings as well, to really spruce up their site.

I do wonder, whether the soda fountain business will return. All the press refers to them fixing up and keeping the HP Pharmacy building...not necessarily the business.

Hope the building is preserved and the business is allowed to return.

^Agreed re: need for more on the street level. Walked by on Monday, and it still looks vacant, really (besides the valet stand, flags, and Cambria sign). They could sure use some planters with greenery or something to spruce it up. Maybe they could use the awnings over the ground floor windows again...

It's the parking garage that had the fire. I walked past this about a week ago, and it looked like the garage work was still stopped due to the fire. I suspect it won't resume until whatever investigation/insurance issues are resolved.

^Agreed. Meso Mayo is in a City of Dallas Landmark building, but the El Fenix building is not landmarked. It should be, and it should stay. ^Well, instead we are getting Harwood Park. Still not convinced that it's a good idea. Their plans look good, but b/c I spend M-F in this part of downtown, IMHO what we don't really need is another park 1 short block from Main St. Garden. Would rather see more in-fill.

I hate the idea of a CVS here. The only way I'd be ok with it is if they save and re-purpose the building. That way, at least some of this local history is preserved. I am definitely opposed to them tearing it down and putting up some awful suburban style CVS (helloooooo McKinney and Lemmon).

^That's not my impression of the Farmers Market downtown at all. We go regularly on Saturdays to buy staples, particularly locally raised meats - chicken, lamb, pork. There always seems to be a nice seasonal vegetable selection, including lots of small-time vendors from local farms.
