The real historic architecture doesn't exist anymore. Theater Row and the old Medical Arts Building are long long gone. I hope they have historic photos for the exhibit. To be fair--and I say this as someone who hates buildings built on parking garage pedestals--it is very difficult and expensive to build parking underground since you hit limestone after going 10 feet underground.

Say what you will about streetcars; but Dallas' MATA street car ridership is actually quite decent. The Oak Cliff Street Car ridership is actually not that bad considering it's not connected to anything. Once the Downtown Lines connect MATA and Oak Cliff; ridership should bump up for these lines. Dallas needs to build a real subway system in the city. DART rail simply does not do the job. It's inconvenient and the system was designed to accommodate the suburbs, not the actual city itself. Overall, I'm loving the presence it is invoking on the skyline. It really does serve well as a compliment to Fountain Place.

Yeah, Downtown was a vibrant center back in those days. And it actually looked like a real city with real pedestrian activity and connectivity. No matter how developers try to rebuild, we will never be able to achieve the quality of that era.

I heard really great things about Cafe Express. Indeed. The food, at least in my opinion, was as great as anything fast food, and just as greasy. Their teas are okay, though.
